Amazon, the e-commerce giant, is reportedly in discussions with major wireless carriers, including Verizon, T-Mobile, and Dish, about launching a mobile service for its Prime members. While Amazon has not confirmed the plans, the talks have been ongoing for several weeks, potentially leading to a new mobile offering for Prime members in the future.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Amazon is exploring the possibility of reselling mobile services from wireless carriers to its Prime members at a reduced cost or potentially for free. The discussions have involved Verizon, T-Mobile, Dish, and AT&T, although Amazon spokesperson Bradley Mattinger stated that the company currently has no plans to add wireless service to Prime. However, this indicates that Amazon is consistently looking to enhance the benefits available to its Prime members.
The news of Amazon's potential entry into the mobile service space has had a significant impact on telecom stocks. On Friday, Verizon shares fell over 3%, while T-Mobile experienced a decline of more than 7%. AT&T's stock also dropped more than 3%. In contrast, Dish shares surged by more than 15%.
