CIB Marine Bancshares, Inc. (OTCQX: CIBH) reported second-quarter 2026 results with higher earnings, expanded net interest margin, improved credit metrics, deposit growth, and continued share repurchases.

CIB Marine Bancshares is the holding company of CIBM Bank, which operates banking offices in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana, with mortgage lending operations across several states.

The company reported net income of $0.9 million, or $0.69 per basic share and $0.68 per diluted share, compared with $0.7 million, or $0.49 per basic share and $0.48 per diluted share, in the prior-year quarter.

Results Showed Higher Earnings and Margin Expansion

Net income increased to $0.9 million from $0.7 million a year earlier.

For the first six months of 2026, net income increased to $1.5 million, or $1.14 per basic share and $1.12 per diluted share, compared with $1.0 million, or $0.73 per basic share and $0.71 per diluted share, in the prior-year period.

Net interest margin improved to 3.03% in the second quarter, compared with 2.96% in the first quarter of 2026 and 2.69% in the second quarter of 2025.

For the first half of 2026, net interest margin was 3.00%, compared with 2.65% in the prior-year period.

The company said net interest income increased $0.5 million from the prior-year quarter and $1.1 million for the first six months of 2026, driven by margin expansion that offset lower average earning asset balances.

Banking and Mortgage Divisions Improved

CIB Marine said net income increased in both its Banking and Mortgage divisions for the first half of 2026.

The Banking Division improved mainly due to higher net interest income, which offset higher provisions for credit losses.

The Mortgage Division improved due to cost management, even as mortgage origination volume remained low because of higher mortgage rates and limited housing inventory.

Credit, Deposits and Buybacks

The allowance for credit losses to loans declined to 1.20% at June 30, 2026, from 1.27% at the end of 2025.

Non-performing assets to total assets improved to 0.87% from 1.04% at year-end. Non-accrual loans to loans improved to 1.09% from 1.31%.

Since year-end 2025, loan balances decreased by $6 million due to lower origination activity. Deposit balances increased by $6 million, allowing CIBM Bank to reduce total borrowings.

CIB Marine repurchased $1.2 million of common stock in the first half of 2026 at a weighted average price of $38.33 per share.

Since February 2025, the company has repurchased 5% of its outstanding stock at an average price of $36.17 per share, using $2.5 million of its $3.5 million authorization through 2026.

Market Focus

Investors are likely watching net interest margin, loan growth, deposit trends, credit quality, mortgage activity, expense management, share repurchases, and whether CIB Marine can grow its commercial loan portfolio during the rest of 2026.

The margin expansion was the strongest signal, while the decline in loan balances shows growth remains a key area to watch.

The Bigger Picture

CIB Marine delivered a stronger quarter as margin expansion and expense discipline lifted earnings.

Net income increased, net interest margin improved, deposits grew, credit metrics strengthened, and the company continued buying back stock. Management is now focused on building loan growth in the second half, particularly in commercial lending.

The key question is whether CIB Marine can turn better margins and deposit growth into stronger balance sheet expansion while maintaining credit quality.
