Lockheed Martin, $LMT, headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, stands as a pivotal entity in global defense and aerospace. In 2025, the company continues to secure significant contracts, advance cutting-edge technologies, and maintain strategic partnerships worldwide. As of 2025, more than 1,100 F-35s have been delivered globally.
The U.S. leads deployment, but it’s far from alone. Nineteen allied nations operate the F-35, including the United Kingdom, Italy, Norway, Japan, Australia, the Netherlands, South Korea, and Israel. Newer entrants like Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Poland, and Singapore have also committed to the program making it the most internationally adopted fighter jet in service today.
The F-35 comes in three variants, each tailored for specific mission environments. And the cost? It depends on which version a country chooses. The F-35A, designed for conventional takeoff and landing, is the most widely used especially by the U.S. Air Force and NATO members. The latest flyaway cost per unit is approximately $82.5 million.
Then there’s the F-35B, built for short takeoff and vertical landing. It’s used by the U.S. Marine Corps and the UK’s Royal Navy, with a unit cost of around $109 million. The third variant, the F-35C, is carrier-capable and built for the U.S. Navy. Its price comes in at roughly $102.1 million. These prices reflect production under Lot 17 part of the U.S. government’s multiyear procurement strategy with Lockheed Martin. In May 2025, the Pentagon approved a $17.2 million contract for Lockheed Martin to support Greece's integration into the F-35 program. This agreement encompasses engineering support, program management, and training.
Lockheed Martin has expanded its collaboration with Germany's Rheinmetall, establishing a "center of excellence" for rocket and missile production in Europe. This partnership aims to bolster European defense capabilities and strengthen NATO's strategic posture. With escalating global tensions and increased defense spending, Lockheed Martin is well-positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities. Its diversified portfolio, encompassing advanced fighter jets, missile systems, and cutting-edge technologies, ensures its continued relevance in modern warfare. Strategic partnerships and a focus on innovation further solidify its status as a cornerstone in the defense sector.
